OAKLAND — Two people were fatally shot Monday in an East Oakland neighborhood, authorities said.
Shortly before 3:15 p.m., officers responded to reports of ShotSpotter activity in the 3400 block of 68th Avenue in the city’s Millsmont neighborhood.
When officers arrived, they found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite emergency life-saving measures before firefighters and paramedics’ arrival, the two were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police were working to gather evidence, speak with witnesses and block off neighborhood traffic. Authorities did not publicly identify either person, pending confirmation and notification of their next of kin.
Investigators offered no preliminary information about a suspect or associated vehicle, or what led up to the shooting.
The killings are the 90th and 91st homicides investigated by Oakland police this year and the fourth since Friday. Last year at this time police had investigated 64 homicides in the city. Police investigated 109 homicides overall last year.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the killer. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
