For the first time, with the success of Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro sales, Google has managed to break into the top five sales for smartphones in the UK in the first quarter of 2022.
As per a report by Francisco Jeronimo, associate vice president at analysis firm IDC, after shipping approximately 164,000 units throughout the first quarter of 2022, the tech giant has broken into the top sales charts in the UK for the first time. According to the tracked data, Apple and Samsung still stand at the top of the charts. Apple shipped 2.4 million units during the tracking period, while Google shipped 1.6 million devices during the same period.
In spite of relatively smaller sales figures in the UK when compared to the two biggest global smartphone OEMs, the UK is one of the key European markets. Consequently, the sales of Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro have resulted in a significant difference in the overall charts. Following Apple and Samsung, HMD Global shipped 210,000 units during the tracking period to claim the third spot in the first quarter sales standings of 2022. Oppo ranked fourth with 205,000 units shipped during the tracking period in quarter one of 2022.
With the discontinuation of the Google Pixel 4a and without the Google Pixel 5a bolstering the low-end, the Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro have helped the tech giant grow UK sales from 50,000 units in the first quarter of 2021 by over 220% to 163,000 units in the first quarter of 2022.
