Tech giant Google is expected to launch the latest addition to its Google Pixel lineup shortly. As such, the Google Pixel 7 and the Google Pixel 7 Pro. have not yet been launched. A few days ago, a Google Pixel 7 prototype was found to be listed on eBay and Facebook marketplace. The same individual posted both the listings. The seller’s location was found to be in McKinney, Texas.
Android Police posted a screenshot of the eBay listing, showing details such as the seller’s location.
The eBay listing generated a lot of interest when it was posted on the social platform Reddit. The screenshot of the listing was posted to the subreddit r/Android and quickly became a topic of much discussion. However, it appears that even before the eBay listing appeared, the Pixel 7 prototype was first listed on Facebook Marketplace. Brandon Lee of This is Tech Today reported on this via the microblogging site Twitter. Although the Facebook Marketplace listing was titled a Pixel 6, the images attached to the listing showed a pre-production Pixel 7 prototype. This could be easily seen from the unusual logo and markings on the device’s hardware.
In the latest video from Brandon Lee, he mentions the Facebook Marketplace listing. He also clarifies that the listing publicly displayed the seller’s name and location of Frisco, Texas. Lee attached a screenshot of this listing at 2:10 in the video. In his video, Lee blocked out this information. The listing is no longer available on Facebook Marketplace.
How the seller managed to obtain the Google Pixel 7 prototype, is still unclear. Upon close inspection of the listing of the prototype, it can also be seen that the images of the Google Pixel 7 prototype were captured by a Google Pixel 7 Pro prototype, as pointed out by Mishaal Rahman.
As pointed out by M. Brandon, it seems that the seller was in possession of multiple Pixel 7 prototype units.
How the seller got their hands on these unreleased prototype devices remains unknown. A few hours after the eBay listing went viral on Reddit and the news was picked up by tech news outlets, the owner removed the listing on eBay “because there was an error in the listing.”
Both the Google Pixel 7 device that has been pictured in the listings as well as the Google Pixel 7 Pro used to take the pictures, corroborate with the hardware preview shown by Google recently. Mishaal Rahman provided an archived version of the eBay listing on Twitter.
It is expected that the Google Pixel 7 and the Google Pixel 7 Pro will arrive on the market later this year, presumably in October, if older release schedules provide any indication.
