iPhone 14 Pro Series Will Reprtedly Introduce AOD Functionality

Posted on June 1, 2022

In a report on his latest newsletter, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, who often has reliable insights and insider info, talks about the likelihood of Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro series getting the AOD functionality, which is short for Always-on display functionality. The much speculated about AOD functionality is likely going to be exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max and their LTPO AMOLED displays.

The panels in question are able to dial back the refresh rate on the lock screen to save up battery power while displaying AOD information such as time, date, and notifications. The Cupertino tech giant already offers AOD on its Apple Watches. As a result, Apple’s introduction of this feature to their iPhone devices is not very surprising.

There has not been any information on whether or not the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max, which also have LTPO panels, will be given the AOD feature when iOS 16 comes out. This very well might end up being a feature exclusive to the new iPhone 14 Pro series.

The newsletter also suggested that the iOS 16 can be expected to bring new lock screen wallpapers with “widget-like features” along with improvements to audio messages in iMessage. We may expect Apple Health to gain new features available on both iPhone and Apple Watch. The Cupertino tech giant is also planning a big overhaul for watchOS. This will give it new navigation options as well as more watch faces and a low-power mode.
