A California man is being sought after he failed to return from a solo hiking trip in Yosemite’s Hetch Hetchy area.
Joel Thomazin, 31, of Denair (Stanislaus County), had planned a hike from Hetch Hetchy Reservoir to Lake Eleanor and back. He left on Monday, Sept. 6, and planned to return Thursday, Sept. 9, but had not been seen as of Sunday.
Lake Eleanor is about 9 miles — a short day’s hike for most backpackers — from the trailhead at Hetch Hetchy Reservoir.
Thomazin is described as 5-foot-10, White, with buzz-cut brown hair. Among his gear is a yellow and gray Kelty backpack, a green sleeping bag, a blue and green hammock, and a red inflatable kayak.
Yosemite Search and Rescue asks that anyone who has information about him, or was in the area of Hetch Hetchy, Lake Eleanor or Miguel Meadow since Sept. 6, call them at 209-238-7046.
