SAN JOSE – A man suspected of pointing a gun at a neighbor early Tuesday in East San Jose was taken into custody after a nearly 11-hour standoff, authorities said.
Officers were called just after 7 a.m. to the 1500 block of June Avenue, off King Road south of Story Road, following the gun sighting, according to San Jose police. The man suspected of brandishing the gun reportedly refused to come out of his home.
Sometime after noon, the San Jose Police Department’s MERGE unit — the equivalent of a SWAT team — was summoned to the site. Around 1 p.m., police confirmed that an officer lobbed a flash-bang grenade into the home in an apparent attempt to force the man to exit and surrender.
At about 5:35 p.m., police said the suspect had been taken into custody.
“It will take us some time to secure from this scene,” police said in a social media post. “To the local residents affected by this incident, we thank you for your patience.”
There were no immediate reports of any injuries.
