Wolves, Grizzlies girls shine in Alameda

  • The balanced San Ramon Valley High girls basketball team took second place in the Lady Hornet Invitational on Dec. 13, and the California girls team placed third. The Wolves dropped a heartbreaker against host Alameda in the championship game 46-44 as six San Ramon Valley players had at least five points, led by guard Tia Kim and forward Megan Cavallo with eight apiece. The Grizzlies beat American 50-45 in overtime in the third place game, led by freshman guard Gabby Edmond’s 14 points. She was 7 of 13 from the free throw line. Captain Bella Denton had eight points.

    Dougherty Valley wins in semifinals

  • Austin Fadal and Jushan Samra each had 14 points as the Dougherty Valley boys basketball team walloped Yerington-Nevada 68-35 in the semifinals of the Rail City Classic on Dec. 12.

    Daily, Lopez pace Monte Vista girls

  • Amanda Daily and Jasmin Lopez both had 17 points as the Monte Vista girls basketball team crushed Sir Francis Drake 59-27 in the second round of the Walnut Creek Classic on Dec. 12.

    Dublin girls roll past Kennedy

  • Senior point guard Milan Moses had 13 points as the Dublin girls basketball team walloped Kennedy-Fremont 69-12 in a nonleague game on Dec. 13. The Gaels improved to 6-1 with the win.

    Valley Christian keeps rolling on court

  • The Valley Christian girls basketball team beat Fortuna 79-52 in the semifinals of the Gene Gadd Invitational on Dec. 12. Seniors Arianna Cunha and Alyssa Arace both had 18 points for the Vikings. Valley Christian then beat Granada 61-51 in the championship game on Dec. 13.

  • Don Nelson Classic, boys basketball, Dec. 18, 8 p.m. — Host Dublin, guided by coach Tom Costello, will face Hayward in the late game of the first day of the annual tourney.

  • Megan Cavallo, San Ramon Valley girls basketball — Cavallo scored 10 points in a 49-34 Lady Hornet Invitational semifinal victory over American, then had eight points in a 46-44 loss to Alameda in the championship game on Dec. 13.
  • Amanda Daily, Monte Vista girls basketball — Daily scored 17 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, in the Mustangs’ 59-27 Walnut Creek Classic semifinal victory over Sir Francis Drake on Dec. 12.
  • Gabby Edmond, California girls basketball — Edmond scored 14 points in the Grizzlies’ 50-45 overtime victory over American in the third-place game of the Lady Hornet Invitational on Dec. 13.

  • Justin Samra, Dougherty Valley boys basketball — Samra scored a game-high 17 points in a 68-32 victory over North Valley-Reno in the first round of the Rail City Classic on Dec. 10, then had 14 points in a semifinal victory over Yerington-Nevada on Dec. 12.

  • Alyssa Arace, Valley Christian girls basketball — Arace scored 13 points in the Vikings’ 61-51 victory over Granada in the Gene Gadd Invitational final on Dec. 13. She also had 18 points in a 79-52 semifinal victory over Dec. 12.
  • Seth Cobb, Foothill boys basketball — Cobb had a game-high 23 points, but the Falcons lost 68-64 to Concord in the semifinals of the Stonebarger Tournament on Dec. 12.
  • Milan Moses, Dublin girls basketball — Moses scored 13 points in a 69-12 nonleague victory over Kennedy-Fremont on Dec. 13.
  • Collin Stafford, Granada boys basketball — Stafford produced a game-high 22 points as the Matadors defeated Berean Christian 81-38 in the first round of the Cloverdale Invitational on Dec. 12.
