‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ on stage in Antioch

ANTIOCH — Stage Right Conservatory Theatre Inc. will present “It’s a Wonderful Life,” adapted by James W. Rodgers, based on the film by Frank Capra.

“It’s a Wonderful Life” is the saga of George Bailey, the Everyman from the small town of Bedford Falls, whose dreams of escape and adventure have been quashed by family obligation and civic duty. George’s guardian angel descends on Christmas Eve to save him from despair and to remind him what the world would have been like had he never been born, and to show him that his life has been, after all, a wonderful life. Performances are Dec. 12, 13, 19 and 20 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 14 and 21 at 2 p.m., Nick Rodriguez Community Center, 213 F St. Adults $10, students and seniors $8, children 10 and younger $5. Local Artist Collection featured at gallery

ANTIOCH — The Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch presents the 10th Annual Local Artist Collection featuring 35 local artists at the Lynn House Gallery through Dec. 13.

The gallery is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. and is at 809 W. First St. The Local Artist Collection exhibit is a diverse, non-themed mixed media exhibit of artworks featuring paintings, photographs and more. In its 10th year, the show is a local favorite and provides the community an opportunity to view and purchase local art during the holiday season. Concert Band presents holiday musical

BRENTWOOD — The Brentwood Concert Band will perform a Holiday Musical Celebration at 7 p.m. Dec. 8 at Brentwood Community Center, 35 Oak St.

Sponsored by the Marine Corps League, this performance will feature several of your holiday favorites, including “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “Themes from the Nutcracker Suite” and “Sleigh Ride.” The proceeds from this concert will benefit the Toys for Tots Drive. Company presents ’12 Days of Christmas’

BRENTWOOD — Brentwood Theater Company will show back-to-back weekend performances of the comedy, “The 12 Days of Christmas,” in the first and second weeks of December.

This comedic play tells the story of Mary, a woman who catches her fiancee kissing another woman on the televised Thanksgiving Day Parade, and then proceeds to encounter all sorts of quirky and awkward situations as she attempts to re-enter the dating pool.

In the end, a charming 5-year-old boy restores her faith in love and life. (Warning: some adult language).

Performances will be Dec. 5 and Dec. 12 at 8 p.m., Dec. 6 and Dec. 13 at 8 p.m., and Dec. 7 and Dec. 14 at 2 p.m.

Show will be hosted at the Delta Gallery for the Arts, 2485 Sand Creek Road #128. Tickets are $22 for adults, $20 for seniors, and $16 for teens. Information: www.

Antioch Art Exhibit at the Umpqua Bank

ANTIOCH — The Arts & Culture Foundation of Antioch will present a new featured artist exhibit to run from December through January, at the Umpqua Bank.

Pittsburg theater presents ‘Mulan’

PITTSBURG — Pittsburg Community Theater will present the musical “Mulan,” featuring more than 40 local student performers and songs from the Disney production of the same name, Dec. 11-13 at the California Theatre.

This classic tale depicts the story of a young girl who protects her elderly father by disguising herself as a boy and joining the army, after an invasion by the Huns. Additionally, there will be a one-act performance written by a local 10-year-old boy called “Operation: Coming Home,” which shows how kids deal with having family members who are deployed. Tickets are $10 for children 11 and under, $15 for children 12 and up, and $20 for adults. College to stage ‘Rent’ at California Theater

PITTSBURG — Los Medanos College Department of Dramatic Arts, in conjunction with LMCAS, Pittsburg Arts & Community Foundation, and Keller Canyon, present the award-winning Broadway musical, “Rent,” which will show at the California Theater Friday and Saturday.

A musical loosely based on Pucinni’s “La Boheme,” “Rent” tells the story of friends and artists struggling with addiction, poverty, AIDS and most of all, love. Hotel California: A salute to the Eagles

ANTIOCH — On Saturday, the Eagles tribute band of more than 20 years, Hotel California, will perform a one-night-only show at the El Campanil Theatre, 602 W. Second St.

Recital Fundraiser for Los Medanos College

ANTIOCH — The Music Teachers Association of California is holding a children’s recital to fund Los Medanos College Scholarships on Dec. 6.

The recital will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the children’s area at the Barnes & Noble at 5709 Lone Tree Way in Antioch. Any purchases made that day will include proceeds that benefit the cause, so long as customers give the number (11450129) to the cashier. Community Choir presents Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus

ANTIOCH — The Brentwood Community Choir will present “The Hallelujah Chorus” from G.F. Handel’s “The Messiah, at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at El Campanil Theatre, 602 W. Second St.

Black Diamond Ballet presents ‘Nutcracker’

PITTSBURG — The nonprofit organization Black Diamond Ballet will present “The Nutcracker” Dec. 13 and 14 at the Pittsburg Creative Arts Building, 250 School St.

This production features professional ballerinas and dancers, along with more than 40 Bay Area-trained student dancers and community performers from Brentwood to Vacaville. Artistic Director Sharon Sobel is a Pittsburg native and graduate of Pittsburg High. Open Mic set for Dec. 11

BRENTWOOD — Brentwood Writes will bring all forms of the written word at Open Mic at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Brentwood Community Center, 35 Oak St.

All short work — poetry, short story, nonfiction, or any other creative work — is welcome. Participants are allowed five minutes each to perform. The group encourages participants to bring work on any subject, their own or that of another writer, as long as it is neither insulting nor abusive. Everyone is invited whether performing or listening and enjoying.

This event is free and open to the public. Brentwood Writes is an adjunct of the Brentwood Art Society and the Brentwood Community Library. Kati Short, poet laureate, is the host.

Annual lighted boat parade set for Dec. 20

DISCOVERY BAY — The Willow Lake Annual Lighted Boat Parade is set at 5 p.m. Dec. 20.

The boats will line up on Willow Lake, Discovery Bay, between Beach, Drakes and Shell Court points. The route will be followed counterclockwise around the lake, and a pace will be kept to ensure all bays are reached.

All boats are welcome.

Support the tradition by hosting a boat-viewing party to let those who decorate their boats know they are appreciated.

Woman’s Club annual Christmas House Tour

ANTIOCH — The GFWC Woman’s Club of Antioch presents the 60th Annual Christmas House Tour, “Elegant and Bright at 60.” The tours are noon to 4 p.m. with a reception from 2 to 5 p.m. Also included in the reception festivities will be the a hand bell choir, door prizes, drawind, light hors d’oeuvres, desserts, champagne punch and no-host bar.
