Attempted kidnapping ends with man’s arrest
On Dec. 2 at 8:43 a.m., Milpitas Police Department officers responded to a reported kidnapping attempt at a business on the 100 block of South Park Victoria Drive.
Police said Luis Cervantes, 35, of San Jose, showed up to the work place of his ex-girlfriend, a 43-year-old San Jose woman, produced a handgun, grabbed the woman and tried to pull her away.
Cervantes also threatened to “beat up” her new boyfriend, who was not present at the business, police said.
As the suspect tried to take her away, the victim yelled for her co-workers to call police. Soon after, Cervantes fled in his car and left the uninjured victim behind, police said.
Responding Milpitas police detectives were able to track down the suspect’s car to an address in San Jose. Cervantes was located and found to be in possession of a black plastic BB gun. The suspect was arrested on charges of kidnapping and brandishing a weapon, police said.
The name of the business was not released due to the ongoing investigation, police said.
Hayward woman arrested for slashing tire in road rage
On Nov. 28 at 4:13 p.m., police responded to vehicle vandalism at 1100 Great Mall Drive.
Police said 22-year-old Hayward resident Maria Mendoza got into a verbal argument with a 49-year-old Milpitas man in the mall’s parking lot. Mendoza allegedly claimed the victim cut her off while she drove her 2000 Toyota Tacoma.
At some point, she threatened the man and then used a knife to slash a tire to his 2000 Kia Soul, police said. Arriving officers caught Mendoza. She was arrested on charges of vehicle vandalism, police said.
The victim was not injured. The damage to his vehicle was estimated at $500, police said.
Armed security guard cited for embezzlement
On Nov. 28, police responded to an embezzlement case at Loomis Fargo & Co. at 897 Wrigley Way.
Police said sometime between Oct. 30 and the time of the call 30-year-old San Jose resident Quan Phan, while working as an armed guard for the company, allegedly stole $500 cash during an ATM cash delivery.
Phan, who was later caught by the company, stated he took the cash to pay for personal expenses. Phan also claimed he was going to pay the money back but was caught before he was able to do so, police said.
The supsect was cited on charges of embezzlement, police said.
Woman arrested for robbery; guard injured
On Nov. 27 at 9:40 p.m., police responded to a robbery at Kohl’s at 1150 Great Mall Drive.
That evening, police said Andrea Lechuga, 36, of San Jose, entered the store and concealed nearly $1,000 of clothing and electronic items into three shopping bags and attempted to exit the store without paying.
Outside, a loss prevention officer tried to detain Lechuga but she fended him off with a bottle of pepper spray. At some point, Lechuga allegedly pushed the 26-year-old Milpitas man and he was hit by a passing car on a leg and fell to his knees, police said.
Arriving officers apprehended Lechuga and recovered the stolen merchandise. She was arrested on charges of robbery and possession of burglary tools, police said.
The loss prevention officer suffered minor injuries and declined medical attention, police said.
$1,000 in electronics, purse stolen from Main Street apartment
On Nov. 27 at 8:45 p.m., police responded to a residential burglary at Monte Vista Apartments at 1001 S. Main St.
That evening, someone entered an apartment via an unlocked sliding glass door. The suspects stole two iPads and a purse, police said.
The total loss was valued at $1,000. No suspects are known, police said.
Attempted burglary suspected at business
On Nov. 27 at 4:59 a.m., police responded to an apparent commercial burglary at Indoor-Outdoor Hydroponics at 261 Houret Drive.
That morning, someone used a 10-pound wheeljack to smash the company’s front lobby glass door. A loud burglar alarm sounded and likely scared off the would-be burglars before they made entry, police said.
No loss was determined. The estimated cost to replace the door was $500. No suspects are known, police said.
$5,000 purse stolen outside gym
On Nov. 26 at 6:37 p.m., police responded to an auto burglary outside Milpitas Star Aquatics & Fitness at 1818 Clearlake Ave.
That evening, someone smashed the right rear window to a 2013 GMC Acadia. Inside the vehicle, the suspects stole a $5,000 purse that contained a wallet and $320 cash, police said.
Video surveillance captured the image of an unknown race man in his mid to late 20s wearing a beanie and a hooded sweatshirt breaking into the GMC. The suspect left the area in a vehicle that was not described, police said.
