Library Lines: Annual Holiday Run benefits local libraries

Posted on December 2, 2014

The 38th Annual Holiday Run and Walk For Health will be held Saturday, Dec. 13, at Contra Loma Regional Park in Antioch. There will be a 10K run, 3- or 1-mile run/walk, and Kids Dashes with Santa. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. Select your favorite library or school on your registration form to raise funds for that institution. For more information or to register, check out the website at http://holidayrun.org.

Programs in East Contra Costa libraries abound in December. Check out these offerings:

Children

  • Read to a Dog at the Pittsburg Library, Saturday, Dec. 6, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Improve your reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a dog from H.A.L.O. Angel Ears Therapy Dogs. Sign up at the information desk for a 10-15 minute session. Walk-ins are welcome as space permits.
  • Magic with Brian Scott at the Antioch Library, Wednesday, Dec. 10, 3 p.m. Please join us for the hilarious magic of Brian Scott. Arrive early to get a good seat as magic shows are always a popular event.
  • Holiday Crafts for Kids at the Brentwood Community Center, Wednesday, Dec. 10, 4 p.m. Get in the holiday spirit with fun seasonal activities. No registration required. At the Brentwood Community Center, 35 Oak St.

    Teens

  • Holiday Cupcake Decorating at the Antioch Library, Thursday, Dec. 18, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Come on down to the library where we will give you cupcakes, icing, sprinkles, and other toppings — everything short of actual bells and whistles — so that you can decorate your very own cupcake to take home or scarf down in the parking lot.

    Adults

  • Immigration Law Workshop at the Antioch Library, Tuesday, Dec. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. If you have any questions about immigration status, or have documents you need help with, the Antioch Library will have a local immigration specialist on-site to answer your questions.
  • Get Covered at the Brentwood Library, Wednesday, Dec. 10, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Join representatives from Covered California’s Community Outreach Network to find the answers about health insurance for you and your families. An enrollment counselor will be on site to sign you up. Register for a 30-minute session by calling 925-516-5290.

Liz Fuller is the senior library manager at the Brentwood Library, and can be reached at 925-516-5294 or [email protected].
