Contra Costa County: Bailey Road still closed between Concord, Pittsburg

Posted on November 5, 2014

A key bypass road connecting east and central Contra Costa County remained closed on Wednesday for the second morning in a row while crews repaired damage left by a Monday night wreck, the California Highway Patrol said.

Most commuters were forced to use Highway 4 after Bailey Road stayed shut Wednesday. The road, which connects Pittsburg and Concord, hasn’t been available since a Honda Civic slammed into a telephone pole, knocking over some wires in the process, around 11:24 p.m. Monday.

PG&E crews were called to the scene Tuesday and were there through the day and night, fixing the wires. Five customers lost power, according to PG&E spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian.

The CHP said nobody was seriously injured in the wreck, and alcohol was not believed to have been a factor. The crash happened on the Pittsburg side near the summit of the road.

Drivers were diverted off Bailey Road between West Leland Road in Pittsburg and Myrtle Drive in Concord, a five-mile stretch. It was not known immediately, when the road would be open again.
