Bishop O’Dowd, Piedmont win WACC games

Posted on November 5, 2014

Bishop O’Dowd High’s Bryce Grandison rushed for three touchdowns, and teammate Chris Hagmaier passed for two more scores in a 40-0 victory over Encinal on Oct. 30.

Grandison opened the scoring with touchdown runs of 1 and 4 yards, then Hagmaier threw touchdown passes to Damani Ballard and Jamie Joseph of 55 and 10 yards respectively for a 26-0 Bishop O’Dowd lead in the second quarter. Bishop O’Dowd improved to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in West Alameda County Conference-Foothill League play, while Encinal fell to 0-9 overall and 0-4 in WACC-Foothill action.

The Dragons need a victory in their regular-season finale against Castro Valley on Nov. 7 at Bishop O’Dowd in order to be considered for the North Coast Section playoffs.

Piedmont 38, San Lorenzo 12: The visiting Highlanders clinched at least a share of the WACC-Shoreline League title with this victory on Nov. 1. Connor Garrett and Gabe Watson both rushed for more than 100 yards and the Highlanders (9-0, 4-0 WACC-Shoreline) had three interceptions, including a pick-six by Watson, in the win. San Lorenzo fell to 1-8 overall and 1-3 in the league with the loss. Piedmont will try to wrap up its first undefeated regular season since 1976 when it hosts Alameda on Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.

McClymonds 40, Skyline 8: LaVance Warren carried 35 times for 378 yards and four touchdowns as the visiting Warriors took control in the second quarter and never looked back again in this Oakland Athletic League game at Skyline High on Oct. 31.

Warren scored on a 10-yard run to put the Warriors (9-0, 4-0 OAL) ahead to stay at 13-8 with 3 minutes, 1 second left before halftime. He added an 11-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and scoring runs of 73 and 28 yards in the fourth.

Skyline (5-3, 2-1) enjoyed its only lead when Armand Shyne ran 26 yards for his team’s lone touchdown with 5:18 left in the second quarter. The Titans looked to have taken a bit of momentum when Jacquese Stein followed with a run for the two-point conversion.

But the Warriors responded quickly by driving 67 yards in nine plays with Warren accounting for 60 of them, including his first touchdown.

Skyline will travel to face Fremont on Nov. 8 at 2 p.m.
