A’s not tendering first baseman Kyle Blanks

Posted on December 2, 2014

OAKLAND — The A’s struck deals with first baseman Ike Davis and right-handed reliever Fernando Rodriguez for the 2014 season Monday.

At the same time, the club announced there would be no contracts tendered for outfielder Andrew Brown and first baseman Kyle Blanks.

Rodriguez pitched in seven games for Oakland last season after coming back from Tommy John surgery with a 1.00 ERA. He spent the bulk of the year at Triple-A Sacramento where he had a 1.97 ERA in 38 relief appearances.

Davis was picked up from the Pirates in a Nov. 23 trade in which Oakland and Pittsburgh exchanged international bonus slots. He played for the Mets and Pirates last year, hitting .233 overall with 11 homers and 51 RBIs.

With the two signings announced Monday, the A’s have a dozen arbitration-eligible players with whom they will negotiate, including lefty reliever Fernando Abad, right-handed relievers Jesse Chavez and Ryan Cook, right-handed starter Jarrod Parker and Jeff Samardzija, outfielders Sam Fuld, Craig Gentry and Josh Reddick, infielders Brett Lawrie, Brandon Moss and Eric Sogard and catcher John Jaso.
