OAKLAND — A 36-year-old man severely beaten early Saturday by several suspects — some armed with blunt objects — has died from his injuries, police said Wednesday.
Yovani Aguilar-Mendez, of Oakland, died Tuesday afternoon at Highland Hospital, where he had been in a coma since the violent attack Oct. 2.
Police said he was attacked by several suspects about 12:14 a.m. Saturday in the 3800 block of San Leandro Street.
The suspects fled before police arrived and found Aguilar-Mendez.
Police do not have a motive yet for the attack and have not made any arrests.
His killing is the 107th death Oakland police are investigating as a homicide this year. Last year at this time police had investigated 80 homicides in the city. The final number of homicides in Oakland last year was 109.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrests of the suspects. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
