LAFAYETTE — A vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision killed a man and left a child with minor injuries, Lafayette police said Wednesday.
Shortly after 3:45 p.m., police shared an alert asking residents to avoid the intersection of School Street at Paradise Court — in front of Stanley Middle School — because of a road closure related to a collision.
In a statement Wednesday night, a Contra Costa sheriff’s spokesman said officers responded just before 3 p.m. to a report of a collision that left a person trapped under a vehicle.
When officers arrived, people outside the school helped them pull an unresponsive man from under a vehicle. Officers provided emergency treatment until firefighters arrived to take over. The man was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
A child at the scene who suffered minor injuries was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
The sheriff’s spokesman did not identity the victim or the driver, who stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
