With the current state of the world, filled with gloom, doom, and uncertainty, finding joy and fulfillment has become essential to give life meaning. The pandemic has certainly disrupted human life, but the world still has to soldier on. Fulfillment and joy have become the only solace to embracing the solid mental strength needed to push and carry on in life.
However, the bigger question remains: how can you find fulfillment and joy amidst all the uncertainty? Dr. Neeta Bhushan, an experienced advocate for emotional and mental health, seems to have cracked the formula for happy living during these worrying times. Neeta is the co-founder of Dharma Coaching Institute, which focuses on mental wellness for its students and entrepreneurs. Through the institute, Neeta has helped different people work on their mental health, guiding them to live happy lives.
Like any other person, the Covid-19 pandemic has also dealt her quite a few setbacks, making difficult decisions about childcare with her young toddler, as well as navigating working and balancing clients and students with kiddo being at home much more. Yet, she’s been able to lean on several of the tools she’s written in her international best-selling book, Emotional Grit. Which has given her such mental strength to carry her through the post pandemic crisis. Her key secret to pulling through the hard times has been maintaining a positive mindset. She also attests to opening her heart to experience joy and fulfillment despite the tough moments. She, therefore, has taken it upon herself to share with the rest of the world the simple way through which you can find fulfillment and joy with the current state of the world.
One of the key things she puts out is finding gratitude in small achievements. According to her, the prevailing global environment for business and life, in general, may not be so promising, so there is the need to appreciate every little achievement. Neeta says it may not necessarily be what you have always wanted, but it’s still a milestone to be happy about.
Gratitude goes in line with positivity. The two complement each other, and Neeta finds them the perfect combination for joy in life. To her, you need to focus on what you have and what’s good about it. She also advises that you pick the positives from every challenge that comes your way. Neeta believes that this will help you create a journal of happiness and gratitude. Essentially, Neeta argues that joy and fulfillment don’t have to come from massive achievements.
Neeta also advises learning to let go of all the negativity that comes your way. She expounds it to include forgiving everyone that has hurt you and any other occurrence that eats into your peace. To her, the objective is to clear the path of negativity to be left with positivity and happiness. Neeta also warns against trying to be a perfectionist under such circumstances. Instead, she advises acknowledging that sometimes things may not go to plan, or the outcome that you envisioned- so there is no need to beat yourself up if something seems impossible. However, this is no reason to tone down your efforts for success but to continue working hard while reserving a margin for error.
More importantly, Neeta’s advice is to acknowledge that this too shall pass, you can still find the magic in the chaos and messy life moments. Therefore, don’t approach everything as a life or death situation; just take it easy and live in the moment. Neeta insists on the need to take care of yourself, and have some unapologetic compassion for the season of life you are in. You can listen to a favorite playlist, do a yoga class, hit the gym, chat it up with friends, watch netflix if you need to, get some high quality sleep and maintain a healthy living.
