‘The Flash’ Season 8 Crossover Will Pull Together Several Fan Favorites Across the Arrowverse

Posted on August 31, 2021

The pandemic stopped the Arrowverse shows from producing their annual crossover this past year, but The Flash is making up for it with its first five episodes of season 8. And if the characters joining in on the fun and the story’s synopsis are any indication, fans are in for a treat.

More than a handful of Arrowverse stars will be joining ‘The Flash’

According to Deadline, the five-episode event titled “Armageddon” will feature many familiar, heroic faces. These include Chyler Leigh as Sentinel, Javicia Leslie as Batwoman, Cress Williams as Black Lightning, Brandon Routh as The Atom, Kat McNamara as Mia Queen, and Osric Chau as Ryan Choi. Villains will also get in on the fun, as Tom Cavanagh will be reprising his role as Reverse Flash and Neal McDonough will return as Damien Darhk.

That’s a lot of characters to take in, but this is one of the things that the Arrowverse does best. The objective of these significant events is to pull in fans from all shows and display how expansive this universe truly is. With the return of these characters, the Arrowverse producers are proving that just because a show ends, that doesn’t mean heroes can’t still come back.

What’s in store for ‘Armageddon’?

The Flash’s season premiere will air on November 16 and kick-off “Armageddon.” This multi-episode event will revolve around an alien threat that makes its way to Central City. Barry and the rest of Team Flash will have their hands full as they fight to save the world from this new enemy. But they can’t do it alone. They will need to call some old friends for help in defeating this new evil. And that’s where the Arrowverse fan favorites come in.

So, it’s not a textbook definition of a crossover per se because it is only taking place on The Flash, but it does feature the makings of one.

There’s no doubt that the show will spread out these fan favorites across the five episodes instead of jam-packing them into every hour. Coronavirus (COVID-19) protocols are still in place, of course. But there is still the promise that fans will be treated to epic fights scenes between the heroes of the Arrowverse and the aliens terrorizing Earth.

What this means for the Arrowverse’s future

The returning heroes and villains will have left their respective shows besides Javicia Leslie and perhaps Chyler Leigh (depending on when Supergirl season 6 ends) by the time “Armageddon” premieres. This announcement gives fans hope to see their favorite characters pop up in this universe again even after their respective shows ends.

These characters reprising their roles means that the possibilities are endless for the Arrowverse and its future. But it also means the stakes are higher than ever on “Armageddon.”

The Arrowverse has never shied away from killing off some of its characters. With so many fan favorites returning from shows that are no longer running, some may die. And if DC’s Legends of Tomorrow season 6 is any indication, an alien invasion can be pretty deadly. As The Flash showrunner said in a statement about the multi-episode event, “Simply put, these are going to be some of the most emotional Flash episodes ever. Plus, there are some truly epic moments and huge surprises that await our fans.”

“Armageddon” will undoubtedly change the course of the Arrowverse.
