Are you a self-proclaimed Bravoholic and were saddened by the news that Real Housewives of Dallas was getting the ax? Don’t worry you’re not alone. Many Real Housewives fans are asking the same question when it comes to this reality TV show. The spinoff is just one of many adaptations from Bravo’s hit franchise, which now has close to 10 different series all over the US. From New York to Salt Lake City, fans can tune in and watch a variety of high-class socialities stir up drama amongst one another.
So, why is the Texas-based franchise not coming back this year, and did it officially get canceled? As of now, only one other series from the franchise, Real Housewives of D.C., has been officially canceled. Real Housewives of Miami also got pulled but has since been rebooted on Peacock. ‘Real Housewives of Dallas’ had low ratings
According to E! News, on August 17, 2021, Bravo announced that RHOD was not going to be returning for another season. A spokesperson told the outlet, “there are currently no plans to bring The Real Housewives of Dallas back next year, and beyond that nothing official has been decided.” News following the announcement then circled with many outlets blaming low ratings for the decision. Newsweek reports that it was the “least-viewed of all the Bravo Real Housewives franchises.” But why did it have such low ratings?
The ‘Real Housewives of Dallas’ had racists incidents
One reason the RHOD franchise had low ratings was due to the show’s lack of diversity as well as racist incidents amongst the cast. Newsweek reports, that throughout season five after Bravo added Dr. Tiffany Moon, an Asian-American anesthesiologist practicing in Dallas to the cast, “numerous Housewives’ families made racially insensitive remarks.” This led to “debates become[ing] so heated that Bravo’s team had to step in, writing on their official Instagram, “Bravo strongly supports the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community,” per Newsweek.
The controversy around some of the cast members is also probably the reason why Peacock’s new series The Real Housewives All-Stars won’t have any RHOD stars on the show. Per Newsweek, season one of Peacock’s spinoff will feature “Teresa Giudice, Melissa Gorga, Cynthia Bailey, Kenya Moore, Luann de Lesseps, Ramona Singer, and Kyle Richards.” Newsweek also reports that cast members of season two have been announced, as well, and include “Dorinda Medley, Jill Zarin, Brandi Glanville, Phaedra Parks, Taylor Armstrong, Eva Marcille Sterling, and Vicki Gunvalson.”
It’s unlikely that Peacock will reboot the series, like it did for ‘RHOM’
As for whether or not RHOD will be officially canceled or given a second chance on Peacock like RHOM, the future is unclear for the show. In Bravo’s statement that we mentioned above, it revealed that the show got the boot, but doesn’t necessarily mean it will be totally canceled, just yet. It sounds like they are still figuring that all.
