‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ is a hit

There was so much hype for the show that Starz decided to renew it before it even aired. Starring Mekai Curtis, the series revolves around a teenage Kanan Stark as he turns into the gangster first introduced in the 2014 show Power. With his Disney history, some fans wondered how Curtis would perform in a role as serious as this one. But Curtis has impressed viewers, with websites such as Decider praising his performance.

Overall, the show has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a growing fan base who are definitely looking forward to seeing more.

The second season of ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ will introduce new faces

With the first season still playing out, there’s no way to tell the plot of season 2. But we at least have an idea of who we’ll be seeing. In addition to the original actors, TVLine reports the show will introduce a string of new characters next season.

One of them is Jukebox’s mom Kenya, who used to date Marvin. Played by former Destiny’s Child star-turned actor LeToya Luckett, Kenya is an ex-singer. “Kenya left the family when Jukebox was very young, tried to make it in L.A. as a singer, but now is settled in Harlem, where church is a big part of her life,” her character description reads, according to TVLine.

Omar Dorsey of Queen Sugar is set to play Cartier “Duns” Fareed, a businessman with an eclectic taste in music and art. He’s “looking to expand into less crowded markets like D.C. and Baltimore.”

Krystal Joy Brown (The Equalizer) will play Renée Timmons, an anger management therapist working with Marvin.

And lastly, Paulina Singer (South of Hell) will be a rising singer named Zisa who’s hoping to break into the industry through Lou and Crown’s label.

When to expect ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ Season 2

Raising Kanan Season 1 should conclude in September. It’s unclear when the show will return, but all things considered, it seems likely it won’t be back on until mid-to-late 2022 — at the earliest.

The good news is that there are plenty of other Power spinoffs to keep you entertained. Next is the second season of Power Book II: Ghost, the show centering Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.) after the death of his father, Ghost. It’s set to return in November.

There’s also the Tommy Egan spinoff Power Book IV: Force and Rashad Tate’s Power Book V: Influence, but neither of them has a release date just yet. Stay tuned to Showbiz Cheat Sheet for any additional updates.
