The relationship between the Sussexes and the Cambridges has been a huge focal point among royal fans for years. The constant tension of whether the group will ever be the Fab Four again has put the royal couples under great scrutiny. After Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex left their royal positions and moved to America, the rift seemed to grow insurmountable. But according to reports, Meghan and Kate are growing closer.
The rift between Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton, and Prince William
Prince Harry and Prince William have been drifting apart for years, a fact that only seemed to get worse when Meghan came into the picture. Harry first admitted to the tension between him and his brother in the ITV documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey.
“Inevitably stuff happens,” he said.” But we’re brothers, we’ll always be brothers. We’re certainly on different paths at the moment. I’ll always be there for him and as I know, he’ll always be there for me. We don’t see each other as much as we used to because we’re so busy but I love him dearly.”
“The majority of stuff is created out of nothing. As brothers, we have good days and we have bad days,” he continued.
In his iconic interview with Oprah, Harry elaborated on where his relationship with his brother stood earlier this year.
“I love William to bits,” Harry told Oprah. “He’s my brother and we’ve been through hell together but we were on different paths.”
“The relationship is space at the moment and time heals all things hopefully,” he said.
Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle are chatting often
Recently, the Fab Four have been growing closer, according to reports.
“I know that the four are talking with one another and they’re talking by Zoom [and by] FaceTime,” royal expert Stewart Pearce, the author of Diana: The Voice of Change, told Us Weekly. “They’re very close with one another.”
Though the Sussexes and Cambridges are very different, they are finding ways to bond.
“Their lens on the world is highly individualized,” he told Us. “And what’s remarkable is that they all totally respect [each other], but this lens is different.”
Pearce noted that these calls are probably very “informal” with “Kate cooking dinner in the kitchen” as they all chat.
Express has also reported that Meghan and Kate have been talking more since the Duchess of Sussex gave birth to Lilibet.
“For the last month I haven’t seen anything new and negative come up from Harry and Meghan after Lili’s birth and I think Kate is making amends and trying to pacify Meghan,” royal expert Sami Wunder told the outlet.
Was the rift inevitable?
Some people blamed the rift between William and Harry on Meghan, but other experts believe that a separation between the brothers was always going to happen.
“They have always been different, they are very different characters,” a source told People when the royals first split their households in 2019. “They drew great comfort from each other when their mother died, and as they’ve grown up together. But they need to be separate. Now Meghan has arrived it is the right time to make that break.”
“The arrival of Meghan has changed the dynamic of the relationship in a fairly significant way,” royals author Sally Bedell Smith told the outlet. She called the split “inevitable and “practical.”
