On August 29, 2021, a fan on Reddit shared a post titled, “Unpopular opinions?” They continue in the post, “This has probably been done before, but I’d like to hear people’s unpopular opinions! I’m curious over whether or not they’re actually agreed on or not that unpopular at all.”
Fans weighed in with their thoughts in the comments. One fan brought up Ashley Seaver (Rachel Nichols), who worked with the BAU for a time. Her father was actually a serial killer, which made for an interesting addition to the team. The fan admits to not liking the character “that much,” and another fan agrees.
“Agent Seaver,” the fan said. “I honestly didn’t like her that much, but I honestly think it has nothing to do with the character and everything to do with the writers.”

Another fan brought up Unit Chief Aaron “Hotch” Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) as a husband to his wife, Haley (Meredith Monroe). There relationship was centerstage for a while, and quite tumultuous at times. The fan doesn’t think Hotch was a bad husband to his wife, and other fans agree with that.
“Hotch wasn’t a terrible husband to Haley,” a fan said. “Yes, he had many faults, but I lost sympathy for her in their marriage when it was low-key revealed she was cheating on him before she left.”
A fan thinks Jason Gideon was a ‘better head profiler,’ but Hotch was ‘a way better team leader’
Another fan adds their opinion to the original poster’s thoughts, which were, “Gideon was a better team leader/head profiler than Hotch and Rossi combined, as much as I love them both.”
A fan adds in the comments that they believe Jason Gideon (Mandy Patinkin) was a “better head profiler.” Gideon was a Senior Supervisory Special Agent according to his Fandom page. He had a natural gift for profiling the unsubs, that’s for sure. However, the fan believes Hotch was a better leader.
“I think Gideon was a better head profiler (as in, he was the best at profiling) but Hotch was a way better team leader (as in, he was better at leading the team),” the fan said.

While a fan thinks the members of the BAU became “way too close” with one another. They were definitely a close-knit team, seeing each other outside work and becoming good friends over the years working together in dangerous situations.
“The BAU got way too close to each other,” a fan weighed in. “It messed with the realism for me because they’re supposed to be professional FBI agents. I think the team should’ve had more internal conflict—that would’ve been more realistic and interesting.”
A fan ‘really’ doesn’t ‘care’ for Emily Prentiss
The original poster also wrote, “Reid and Emily are a wee bit overrated imo, as much as I love them both.” A fan weighed in on Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster), who became Unit Chief, saying they don’t “care” for the character.
“I really don’t care for Prentiss,” a fan said, and another agrees.
But another fan agrees with the original poster’s thoughts, except for the one about Prentiss. “Agree with all except Emily being ‘overrated’ because she is my fav. She’s so strong and independent and her backstory with Ian Doyle was my favorite on the entire show.”
