Snapshot: Colors of the 1968 Monza 1000 Kilometer

This 1968 photo depicts that year’s 1000-kilometer race at Autodromo Nazionale Monza, with cars braking hard at the new-for-1966 chicane right before entering the old banking at Curva Grande.

From the front, there’s what appears to be the Jean-Claude Killy/Jean Guichet driven Porsche works 911 T (10th overall, 2nd GT2), the Paul Hawkins/David Hobbs Gulf GT40 (overall winner), the David Piper/Mike Salmon GT40 (DNF), the Pierre Sudan/Cox Kocher Ferrari 275 GTB/2 (DNF), and the “White”/Umberto Grano Abarth SP1000 (15th overall, 2nd Sports 1000 class).

The old Monza was magic. Deadly, but magic.
