Non-Letter Two-Door Hardtop: 1962 Chrysler 300 Project

Posted on December 14, 2017

This 1962 Chrysler 300 two-door hardtop is from the first model year for non-letter series cars, and the seller describes it as a survivor retaining its original paint, engine (either a 383 or 413), and push-button TorqueFlite automatic. The car hasn’t run in 25 years, but all electricals reportedly remain functional, and a good amount of included paperwork is mentioned as well. Some spare NOS parts are also part of the package, while the seller lists a rebuilt 383 as being available as well. Find it here on Craigslist in Milford, Michigan for $7k.

While the previous 300H was offered exclusively in two-door coupe or convertible form with total production of just 570 (135 convertibles and 435 hardtops), these first-series non-lettered cars sold in much larger numbers. Though available in four-door sedan and hardtop as well as convertible body styles, these two-door hardtops are arguably the most attractive. Though it hasn’t run in a quarter century, this one looks pretty well preserved with mostly straight sheet metal and complete glass and trim.

The interior isn’t shown in detail, but again it seems mostly complete. We can’t see the front seats, but the rear bench appears to been good condition, as does visible trim, switchgear and Astrodome instrument. Along with the gauges, the radio and other controls on the dash all featured the same electroluminescent lighting.

The 300H had only one engine, the RB 413 which was offered with a number of different intake setups including Cross-Ram, with power ranging from 340 to over 400 HP. These non-letter cars offered the option of a 383, though the seller doesn’t specify which is optioned here. Although complete, the engine hasn’t run in 25 years and it doesn’t look like anything has been touched in a long time either. Most components, hoses and lines look factory though, and it appears as though the rocker covers still retain factory blue paint beneath years of grime.

Specifics aren’t provided, but the seller does not some NOS parts as being included, as well as an optionally available rebuilt 383 from an unspecified 1964 model year car.
