Miami has formally put its planned Formula 1 street race back on the docket, with its City Commission set to vote once again on the event on March 28.

Last September, the commission voted to defer the discussions on the race, but the subject will be debated once again next Thursday with the hope for F1 that the project will this time advance to the next stage.

It is believed that representatives from F1 and promoter South Florida Racing have been active in the past few months interacting with the city of Miami and, more importantly, with the Bayfront Management Trust which controls the land on which part of the planned Miami track is located.

“The City Commission wishes to authorize the City Manager to execute the Host City Agreement and the Park Use Agreements for the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, between the City of Miami, the Bayfront Park Management Trust, South Florida Racing, LLC. and Formula 1 World Championship Limited, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney,” notes the resolution that will be voted upon next week.

Last October, Miami held an F1 Fan Festival that brought out 80,000 people, with the event initially scheduled as part of a 2019 inaugural Miami Grand Prix package.

Formula 1 is hoping to secure a contract with Florida’s Magic City that would run until 2029, thus fulfilling its target of adding a second race in the US after Austin.
