BaT Auction: 23K-Mile 1986 Toyota MR2

This 1986 Toyota MR2 has just 23k miles and is largely unmodified apart from a set of dealer-installed Riken wheels and window tint. Power comes from a 1.6 liter mid-mounted inline-four paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. The car has been with the seller for nearly two years and has been driven about twice a month during that time. It reportedly retains original paint and a stock drivetrain, and no issues are noted. This MR2 is sold with an accident-free Carfax confirming the low mileage and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The bodywork is standard, and per the seller the white paintwork is original. Windows are heavily tinted, and a small small Lexan spoiler is fitted over the rear window and has printed Toyota script. The Riken wheels were reportedly fitted by the dealer when the car was purchased.

The cabin is unmodified, and the angular dash and instrument binnacle are free of cracks. Two-tone cloth seat upholstery and black carpets reveal no serious wear, and the stitched leather steering wheel rim looks intact. Almost all of the interior features are said to work correctly, including the gauges and cold-blowing A/C, though the interior trunk release is not working. The odometer shows 22,918 miles and is believed accurate.

The 1.6L naturally aspirated inline-four is believed original and coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. Records from the previous owner are not available, though per the seller no issues are present. The car last passed California smog in April 2015, and an oil and filter change were performed about 800 miles ago.

The trunk is clean, with intact plastics and the original spare still in place. The tool kit is in the original green vinyl bag, and the jack is still in place.

The clean Carfax is attached and tracks the history in Colorado, Arizona, and ultimately with the seller in California. The mileage is confirmed and the car appears to have been driven little since 1996. A brief driving video can be seen below.
