BaT Auction: 1987 Land Rover 90

This 1987 Land Rover 90 was imported from the UK to the US by the seller in 2013 and has since been refinished in olive green and black. Power is from a later 2.5-liter 200Tdi turbodiesel inline-four paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and a two-speed transfer case. Additional features include a hardtop with Masai panoramic glass windows, a soft top with roll-up sides, 16″ steel wheels with mud tires, a cloth and vinyl interior with seating for six passengers, custom heat shielding, an aftermarket audio system, and more. The timing belt was replaced and fluid changes performed in 2019. This 90 is offered with full and half doors, partial service records, importation documents, and a clean New York title in the seller’s name.

The body was refinished in Jeep Tank Green in 2015 and again in 2019 due to sun damage, with the latter following soda blasting to bare metal. Photos in the gallery below show the refurbishment in progress. The truck comes with drop-down and swing-away tailgates, full doors with push-button door pulls, and half doors with Series-style levers. The tan canvas soft top features roll-up plastic side and rear windows.

The included hardtop has been refinished in black and modified with Masai panoramic glass side windows. Black 16″ steel wheels wear Federal Couragia M/T tires with 2019 date codes.

The interior features replacement front seats upholstered in vinyl with cloth center sections as well as four inward-facing jump seats. Equipment includes an under-dash air conditioning system and an aftermarket center console with a storage compartment. Rubber mats cover the floors, and a custom heat shield has been added to the firewall, footwells, and seat box.

The right-hand-drive dash houses an MPH speedometer and a six-digit odometer reading approximately 103k miles, 2k of which were added under current ownership. A Bluetooth receiver hidden in the dash allows a smartphone to stream audio through speakers in the front footwells, with volume controlled using a rotary knob on the dash near the quartz clock.

The 2.5-liter 200Tdi turbodiesel inline-four was reportedly sourced from a later European-market Land Rover Discovery. Service performed in 2019 is said to have included replacement of the timing belt and air filter as well as an oil change.

Power is sent to all four wheels through a four-speed ZF 4HP22 automatic transmission and an LT230 two-speed transfer case with a 1.222:1 low-range ratio. The transmission fluid and filter were changed in 2019. A driving and walk-around video is provided below.
