BaT Auction: 1969 Porsche 911T Twin-Plug Hot Rod

Posted on October 22, 2019

This 1969 Porsche 911T was built by Ryan Turri and is powered by a naturally aspirated 3.3-liter flat-six. The engine case was sourced from a 1976 930 Turbo, and equipment includes a 70.4-millimeter crankshaft, 100.0-millimeter pistons, GE60 camshafts, twin-plug ignition, and 46-millimeter Weber carburetors. The rear wheels are driven via a modified short-ratio 915 five-speed manual transaxle. 911SC-spec Bilstein suspension and braking components are installed, as are Tarett Engineering adjustable front and rear sway bars. The car has been refinished in Grey Black over an updated interior that features red leather, houndstooth cloth, black carpeting, a JL Audio sound system, and Bluetooth connectivity. The car was reportedly found in a garage in Wyoming by Turri and acquired by the seller in 2016. The build was completed in California by December 2016, and approximately 4k miles have since been added. This modified 911T is now offered with a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The car was reportedly delivered new in Silver Metallic, but the exterior was refinished in 2018 in Grey Black, a factory option on the 997.2 GT3 RS. Per the seller, rust was discovered in the front pan prior to the repaint and the car was subsequently mounted to a Celette bench, the glass removed, and the front pan replaced. An aluminum hood and deck lid were sourced from Aase Sales and are joined by a factory muffler skirt. Corner-balance paperwork in the photo gallery below shows that the car weighs 2,239 pounds without a driver.

15″ Fuchs wheels are finished in satin and black and show 1969 date codes, as presented in the gallery. The wheels are mounted with 185/70 Avon CR6ZZ radial tires. Handling upgrades include 911SC-spec Bilstein suspension and brakes in addition to 911SC adjustable spring plates, larger torsion bars, Rebel Racing bushings, and adjustable front and rear sway bars from Tarett Engineering.

The interior features bolstered LeMans T85 seats upholstered in Porsche Nappa Red leather with houndstooth centers, and the factory trim panels were dyed to match. A JL Audio amplifier installed under the passenger seat drives JL Audio speakers, and a Bluetooth receiver is mounted under the dashboard. A Rennline ExactFit magnetic phone mount is affixed to the clock housing. The sunroof motor has been disconnected because its operation was slow, according to the seller.

A Prototipo steering wheel was ordered from Momo in red leather and fronts a black dashboard with red trim and a 911T logo. The JWest Engineering RennShift shifter is equipped with a JoshyRobots Broke Deck 917 knob. Factory VDO instrumentation includes a 150-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and a five-digit odometer showing 59k miles, of which the seller has added about 4k.

The flat-six engine case was reportedly sourced from a 1976 930 Turbo and overbored to displace 3,318cc with a 70.4mm stroke and 100.0mm pistons. The engine was built by Gary Dielacher at GD Racing of San Mateo, California and features 46mm Weber carburetors, GE60 camshafts, twin-plug ignition, and an oil cooler sourced from a 3.2 Carrera. A parts list for the engine totaling $22,002 is shown in the gallery below, and the most recent oil change was in May 2019.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a modified 915 five-speed manual transaxle built by Charles Rossignol of California. Factory gearing was retained from first to third, but fourth and fifth were replaced with shorter SN and QQ gears, respectively. A 22-gallon 911SC fuel tank is equipped. Additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery below.
