BaT Auction: 1968 Ford F-250 V8 4-Speed at No Reserve

Posted on June 9, 2021

This 1968 Ford F-250 is a ¾-ton long-bed pickup that was delivered new to Gilbert Tilbury Ford Lincoln Mercury of McMinnville, Oregon. It is said to have remained with its original owner until 2020 and was acquired by the selling dealer from the second owner in April 2021. Finished in red with a white roof over black vinyl upholstery, the truck is equipped with dual fuel tanks, towing mirrors, a rear step bumper, a cargo light, heavy-duty springs, and gas shocks. Power is supplied by a replacement 360ci V8 mated to a four-speed manual transmission, and work in preparation for the sale included replacement of the shocks, the brake shoes, the brake master cylinder, the valve-cover gaskets, and the oil-pressure switch, along with servicing the transmission and changing the engine and gear oils. This F-250 is now offered at no reserve by the selling dealer with manufacturer’s literature including the owner’s manual, a three-volume shop manual, and a wiring manual as well as its original Oregon license plates, a Deluxe Marti report, and a clean Oregon title.

The body was refinished in its factory color combination of Rangoon Red with a Wimbledon White roof under previous ownership. Both bumpers are painted white, and the Styleside box encloses an eight-foot bed protected by a spray-on liner. Equipment includes West Coast towing mirrors by Re-Trac, body-side moldings, a rear step bumper with a ball hitch, and a cargo light. A pair of tie-down hooks are affixed to the exterior of the bed on each side.

The truck came equipped with heavy-duty springs front and rear, and Monroe Gas-Magnum shocks have been fitted all around. The brake shoes and the master cylinder were replaced in preparation for the sale, and all four drum brakes are shown up close with the wheels removed in the photo gallery below.

The replacement 360ci V8—which is said to be of late-1960s vintage—was installed by the previous owner along with a rebuilt Motorcraft two-barrel carburetor and a replacement radiator and distributor. The selling dealer replaced the valve-cover gaskets and the oil-pressure switch and changed the oil in preparation for the sale. A replacement water bottle was also installed but is noted to be inoperative.
