This 1991 Mitsubishi Galant VR-4 looks a bit scruffier with a higher mileage count than most JDM cars, but both still compare favorably to many offered for sale on this side of the Pacific, a situation exacerbated by the relatively few LHD cars we received from new. The ad is pretty light on hard detail, but a video walkaround shows the car starting easily, idling smoothly, and revving up nicely, while interior cosmetics are quite a bit better than what the exterior would lead most to expect. Find it here on Craigslist near Seattle, Washington for $10,900.
The car was photographed while filthy in the rain, and as the above-linked video was shot in the same weather, it’s not much help in assessing condition, either. Still, it seems pretty clear that paint has seen better days, particularly on the front air dam and bumper. Flaking window trim is notable as well, though the car does look to be straight.
The seller admits that the exterior is in what Japanese auctions would rank a “grade 4,” but calls the interior a solid “B,” which photos generally do seem to support. Front seats are nicely upholstered in what must be hard-wearing fabrics, and the dash looks to be free of cracks. Likewise, rear seats and door panels show well too, and all gauges and lights seem to work too. The Nardi wheel (note the signature on the right spoke) has been fitted with a Mitsubishi diamond logo horn button, and an Apexi boost gauge mounted to the steering column works in combo with a much less detailed line-segment LED unit built into the tach.
Note also the aftermarket accelerator pedal, and what may be part of an Apexi boost controller noted in the ad. The engine exhales through an unspecified big-bore aftermarket exhaust, but still inhales through what looks like standard plumbing. The exhaust manifold looks to be stock too, possibly hinting that mods are minimal. Mileage is given as 149,500 km, or around 93k miles.
Like Subaru with the Legacy in pre-Impreza days, Mitsu’s early 90’s WRC works effort relied on Gallants before later switching to the smaller Lancer platform. Street cars are full of tech like AWD, four-wheel discs, and active four-wheel steering (above 31 MPH), and if this one drives well, cosmetics could easily be tended to over time–either that and leave them alone and hide any worn paint with lots of caked-on dirt.
