This 1972 Mercedes-Benz 350SL is an early European spec example that’s said to have been restored approximately 10 years ago, a process that included fitment of a mild build SBC V8 paired with a beefed up Turbo-Hydramatic. Output is listed at 400 HP, A/C sounds like it may remain in working condition, and the overall quality of the build seems nice. Find it here on eBay in Brooklyn, New York for $10k OBO.
These early R107 cars have a certain unadorned quality, and this example wears a factory color-matched hardtop which jives nicely with the blue pinstripe. A soft top is also included, and it looks to be in good shape with a clear rear window. Tires are said to be new and wheels resemble a popular BBS 3-piece design, but the seller doesn’t say if they’re genuine or replicas. The description says there are only a handful of flaws, but one thing that seems to stick out is the fitment of the front bumper.
Inside, both the dash and upholstery present well. The stereo has been upgraded with tweeters hidden inside of outer climate control vents. Neither the tach nor speedo work, and it’s not quite clear whether A/C is blowing cold–the seller points to its presence as a selling point more than once, but doesn’t mention whether the system still blows cold. White over blue MB-tex is always a nice combo.
The engine bay has been painted black and now houses a Chevy V8 with aluminum heads and claimed output of 400 HP. Motivation is sent to the rear wheels through a 700R4 3-speed automatic which is also described as built, and overall, things look reasonably tidy underhood.
There are quite a few details here that could be better executed, but provided everything else is more or less dialed-in, OEM style wheels, a front bumper readjustment, and perhaps having the engine bay painted to match the exterior would bring big benefits.
